I have a small site hosted on Linux in Godaddy but I am doubting if it has any negative effect than hosting on windows?

    not much difference.. and no a linux server has no side effect on hosting..

    honestly it should work either way, unless you have some really shifty software with which you made the site

    Linux servers are often faster and more reliable. The majority of internet servers are running Apache, regardless of OS, and this was primarily developed for Unix based systems.

    It depends on what programming language you’re using.

    Usually Windows Hosting has IIS as middleware, Linux Apache. Both can run for instance PHP, but if you use PHP always buy Linux hosting. It’s cheaper and you won’t have to call on the hosting provider as much to fix rights problems. For HTML/CSS it’s all no problem.

    Linux server is typically more stable and cost cheaper.
    It come with more features.

    Typically people choose Windows server when they need to run on script that can only support natively by Windows server, eg asp, aspx.

    If you are hosting normal html page, go for Linux.
    Linux also support the widely used script called php.
