Some domain registrars offer anonymous registration or proxy registration when you purchase a domain through their company. This means people cannot just run a WhoIs check on your domain and get your home address and home phone number. I’m considering upgrading my Yahoo mail account, but I won’t bother if no anonymous service is available. I don’t really care to post my home address and telephone number all over the internet. And if you register a domain name without a proxy of some sort, you’re basically doing just that. I know Yahoo keeps my information private now, but do they do the same thing if you register a domain name (which is a little different than their free services) with them?

I have found that when using free proxy servers, some web sites are inaccessible through the proxy server — for instance, registration sites for discussion boards. If I purchase my own proxy server, will I still experience this problem?

I’m out of the country and half.com is banned for some odd reason. But I need to order textbooks now, because I won’t have time once I return home. So I need to access the site through a proxy server. Is it safe for me to put in all my credit information?
