I have pc running windows xp and another older pc with windows 98 on a bad hd. I would like to disable the hd and run the old pc as a diskless workstation. Everything on the net involves linux, windows server, etc. Is it possible to use my current resources to accomplish this? Does anyone have a step by step guide on how to accomplish.
Additional Information:
My dead PC has Windows 98 on the dead HD. It does have a Network booting option in the BIOS (LAN, C, D,). It has network card but I’m unsure if it is bootable. I really appreciate all the help and will review the links. I was trying to avoid Linux, because I’m unfamiliar with it, but it looks like I’m going to have to learn it.

We are developing an information system to capture client information. Which database should we use?
It should be secure. It should be scalable. It will be located on our in-house server. Each of 10 employees computers are connected to the server. An intranet will host a web site that will connect the employees to the database. This internal web site will be how information is stored on, processed and retrieved from the database. Our external web site will be hosted on the same server. The external web site will be used by clients and will pull certain information from the database. We also need mail-merge functionality. Information from the database needs to populate word document templates. We currently use an ACT! database to fullfill this need and an access database for all other information. Our server and all computers run on Windows. I’ve been leaning towards mySQL however I’m not sure how mail-merge and mySQL relate. I am the least knowledgable about mail-merge. However, the ability to have stored information populate certain documents is imperative.
How do i set “rights” to a client computer in our network using windows server 2003 so that he will be allowed to install a software and after installation i want that same client computer to not be able to install softwares again. Thanks!

Ok, some background information. I am a business education teacher who HAS to get his lab up ASAP. Our tech is not available as he is working on the new phone systems in a brand new building and so this is all up to me.
We have a brand new Dell PowerEdge SC1430 server running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. I have 30 Dell client computers running Windows XP Professional.
All 30 of these machines have been completely reloaded and have nothing on them but Windows and the correct drivers.
Now, when I try to join the domain, 50% of the computers join the domain without hesitation or error, but the other 50% are throwing the following error…
“The following occurred attempting to join the domain “Student” The specified network name is no longer available.
Please note these machines are able to connect to the internet, and I can ping both the server and the gateway.
If anyone has a clue why these wont join, please advise!!
