I need some help in doing this. I have looked all over the internet and cannot find how to do it. I have Windows Server 2003 and have a good knowledge of the DNS system but just need a bit of guidance.
Many thanks in advance.

One Response to “Setting up a public DNS server and Nameserver on Windows Server 2003?”

There’s nothing to it. A name server is just a DNS server. And DNS services are included with Server 2003 (they have to be – Active Directory RELIES on DNS).

The key is getting a static IP address (or two) and REGISTERING the IP as a name server. You need your ISP (typically) to allow this (and if you have a static IP, they usually do), then you need to go through your domain registrar to register your name server. I use active-domain.com to purchase my domains (cheap) and the process is easy through their system.
