Novell Marketing Video for Linux playing on the popular Mac vs PC videos. What is Linux? See: en.wikipedia.org Some points for Linux off the top of my head: – Free (as in speech). I have the freedom to tweak the system as I wish. – DRM Free – Superior method of software updates, installation – Solid stability (servers I run have been up for 1+yrs, my desktop 1+ month) – Can scale down to very old/obscure hardware (I have a Linux file server running an old 266, 24MB ram – Virtually Spyware/Virus free – Variety of system tools not available in Windows. Extensive programming interface. – Very cool eye-candy ahead of other Operating systems. Youtube search “compiz”, see the upcoming KDE, see the current version of Gnome. – I know exactly what my computer is doing. Can’t say the same thing with Windows, OS X – Although I agree gaming is lacking, I personally don’t game on PC but what I do see is the amazing benefit of being able to have access to the thousands of OSS packages out there. – Luxury of using technology backed up by contributions and usage by companies such as IBM, HP, Sun, Google, many governments, military orgs, NASA, universities, super computer research. Outside the desktop Windows presence is not the greatest. – Constant updates to all my software. You can choose to run cutting edge or run stable. – Ability to decide what to install and what not to (can’t say the same thing about XP) – Freedom of not depending on one single vendor. I know my needs will not be …

@bielawa86 there is a new wine version out since a few days. it supports directX much better
I love linux for it’s unlimited possibilities, but i do like Windows for games (waiting for perfect working wine isn’t pretty good for me), and i hate mac, coz’ it’s gay, and it’s only for being self “proud” haha! every macbook costs 6000PLN+ Only coz’ of the apple haha! summarizing, Win – ok -Lin – Great Mac- gay!
@Askar450 All that may be true, but I never said windows was used….. calm down
@Kiiiizle First PC = Doesn’t mean Windows, Second Mac is a UNIX based OS. UNIX came out way way before Windows to begin with and being UNIX based OS there would be no need for Windows.
455 of the Worlds Supercomputers use LINUX. 1 BSD based. 22 Unix based. 17 mixed. 5 Windows…Open Source 495 Closed Source 5…I wonder…
What does the Mac guy says?
They both are gay and she is a nympho.
People are forgetting that the first MAC os was written using a pc …………
I’m waiting for a vendor like Gateway or Dell to sell consumers a desktop which supports USB 3.0 ports, I’m thinking this model must have at least Windows 7 64 bit, Intel CPU with core i5 or core i7, Bluray disc burner, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 256GB SSD hard disk, 7 channel digital audio, and a nice NVidia or ATI graphics card with HDMI 1.3a support, I’m sure you can build an ASUS motherboard and each component separately, but I think it’s better with vendor.
@Yayo015 Ubuntu 10.04, really easy to use. Search wubi in google for a really easy way to install it without screwing up windows.
@Yayo015 I am going to say one more time to hammer the point:
you do not need to use use the command line in Ubuntu.
You do not have to use Aptitude (which is through the command line): you can use the GUI-interface-only package (applications in Linux are called packages by their components for manageability) manager, Synaptic. The dependencies are taken care of, all you need is an internet connection.
@Yayo015 Try Ubuntu. Debian is where you have to get down into the depths, but Ubuntu has done an excellent job of abstracting that from the user, including (free) updates. You do not have to use the command line in Ubuntu unless you are nitpicky about every little thing.
@nUboon2Age If you hang around places a long time it makes people think there are fanboys. don’t give them ammunition
@Yayo015 I dont see anything noob friendly about windows that isn’t available on linux other than it’s easier to catch viruses. Most people that are skeptical about linux haven’t tried linux. My wife used to use ubuntu, and she’s a complete noob, as far as computers go. It’s different, but it does what it’s supposed to do.
I can make my linux look like a mac, like windows 7, like windows XP, or just like a good ol’ gnome setup with two panels. Something that cant be done on windows.
@Yayo015 Not anymore. Ubuntu 10.04!
@Yayo015 Try Ubuntu 10.04 Linux — a super easy to use GUI.
