I’m assuming that the server is attached to a local router or switch and you either have the laptop wired into the router/switch or have a wireless access point plugged into the router/switch. Connectivity

Someone with the proper authorization will have to create an account for the new user. This can be done on the server or on the laptop. What your looking for is how to join the domain.

…could be trying to join a domain… or just trying to access a network share or printer. Or could be trying to remotely control it…. Not really sure what the question is.

If it’s join the domain, then keep in mind, only XP Professional allows this. XP Home cannot do it.

If you just need to access a share, in any explorer window type this at the top: \servername

That’s called a UNC path, and will take you to any shares on the server.

Do you have a domain running on Windows Server 2003? You can access the 2003 machine by just typing the \servername from the XP machine and logging in as a user on the Windows Server 2003 computer. Oh, make sure both computers are in the same subnet.
