Here is the simple and direct answer. Most free and so called anonymous proxies are run by hackers. They use them to plant software on your computer to not only steal your information but to use your computers IP address and connection to do more hacking.

The recent Facebook, Twitter etc denial of service attacks were run form thousands of computers around thew world that had been compromised in such a way.

The ones that are not run by hackers are run by marketing companies looking to advertise and get data on how to promote better advertising. One free service like this is actually run by a marketing company that claims they can sell trarget lists of consumers names with all of their preferences and such. The only way they are doing that is by looking at your data as it flows through their free service.

If you want actual security get a professionally run personal VPN that is reliable and actually secures your connection and encrypts all the data. This is what big business uses for their field employees to protect their data. Large corporations would never rely on a proxy.

I have used these guys, http://www.surfbouncer.com for almost a year now and they have been very good for my purposes.

Trust me when i tell you that should not ever use proxy servers for banking and other sensible information’s about you.
Surfing is not any problem. You can find proxies almost everywhere. I prefer http://www.proxyblind.org but i never use proxies for banking, login into my emails and similar.
Every server is set to log. Administrator usually never looks into logs but you never know.

You understand how proxies work, first of all? They intercept packets from your machine and forward them to the machine on the internet you’re contacting (be it a website or whatever), this means every single thing you type into your browser after you connect to the proxy goes through the proxy’s machine.

your machine > proxy server’s machine > website’s machine

Logging can and is done on public proxies. Just because a proxy is ‘anonymous’ does not mean its not being sniffed or logged for certain data on certain websites. You shouldn’t be using them for anything you wouldn’t mind giving up should they get broken into, and not banking for any circumstances.

The amount of banking details i’ve read in CLEARTEXT going over a proxy i used to host was incredible. (people sending them in emails, even!)
